Weekend Art Retreat

Dreamy Realistic Imaginary Painting

Details:  D.R.I.P. is the new method that I (Margaret) have developed from the distillation of all the coolest techniques and fun ideas I’ve gathered over the years. Think of this as a casserole of savory, juicy art ingredients inspired by Miskulin, Lobenberg, Verdugo, McCloud, Shaw and Moore (all wonderful artists). In this class, you’ll use pencil, oil pastel, collage with paper and fabric, ink, acrylics, stamping, image transfer, doodling and a healthy dose of imagination.

WARNING: You MUST be willing to experiment, splatter, make “mistakes”, spray, write, and DREAM in this class. You will be required to use your imagination in new ways. This is not your grandmother’s landscape painting class (but your grandmother is welcome in class). You will create a work of art in the Imaginary Realism style — it might be an abstract, or you might see and develop a subject within the painting — it’s all up to you.

Absolute beginners and more seasoned artists are welcome. You will create an incredible explosion of imagination in this class. Note: During the course of this class, you will receive 10 hours of instruction and complete ONE painting. You provide your own canvas and materials. Materials list provided upon registration.

JULY 2013
  • Celebratory Open House event at The Nest! Please join us on Wednesday, July 17th anytime between 4:00pm and 6:30pm at The Nest: A Gathering Place for a special Open House event featuring refreshments, art projects, music, retail, good company, resources, and more!
  • Soul Collage: Saturday, July 27th from 10:am to 2:00pm. Registration is $50 plus a $10 materials fee and is due July 19th. To register contact Margaret Sarantis at: [email protected]

Are you drawn to the idea of making art but still a little timid? SoulCollage(R) is a perfect class for beginners and people with absolutely NO art experience. I’ll show you collage techniques to make your own deck of SoulCollage(R) cards based on the teachings of the SoulCollage(R) creator, Seena B. Frost. While the mechanics of creating SoulCollage(R) cards is simple, the process and end product yield profound insights into your deepest feelings.

Come with a collection of your favorite personal photos and magazine clippings (or use my collection) and be ready for a moving experience. This workshop offers an opportunity to discuss and share your cards with the group, but if you’re feeling shy, please know that you can just sit back and listen to the group and share only if you’re comfortable.
